Hot Take

Bold, contrarian opinions and provocative viewpoints that challenge conventional wisdom and spark discussion.

Overview

Unpopular opinion: most "engagement strategies" produce safe, forgettable tweets. The contrarian view earns three things: attention, replies, and memory. Take it seriously, defend it briefly, end sharp. That's a Hot Take.

How to write a Hot Take

  1. Lead with a provocative or surprising statement.

  2. Challenge a common belief or piece of popular advice.

  3. Give a brief, logical argument for the contrarian view.

  4. End with a thought-provoking question or a sharp closer.

  5. State the take in one line, no hedge. 'Unpopular opinion: most people don't need a morning routine' lands; long-winded contrarian arguments don't.

  6. Back it up in two sentences max. The hot take earns the read; the support earns the agreement.

  7. End sharp, not soft. A pointed question, a single-line dare, or a clean closing claim — never trail off.
